Washbrook Barn is quietly situated with a very pretty, private garden, and the house is only a stone's throw from the mill stream that marks the end of the lane. Surfing, sandy beaches and rock pools are a ten minute drive away at Bantham and Thurlestone, or closer to home, there are lovely walks from the house: over the hill to Bowcombe Creek or across to the quayside at the head of the estuary.

Kingsbridge - an easy walk away - holds markets twice a week, and Fore Street has some very browseable shops as well as a wide choice of places to eat.

There is a well equipped leisure centre in the town, a small independent cinema and boat trips down the estuary through stunning landscape to the busy sailing centre of Salcombe.
